Google's in-house tax team knows all things corporate tax. Made up of smart, perceptive Googlers with a flair for domestic, international and sales & use tax, the knowledge and expertise of this team runs deep. You have years of experience in this field and an extensive knowledge of those tax issues most relevant to internet companies. While we don't give our Googlers individual tax advice, you make it easy for Googlers to get what they need to make good tax decisions. You find ways to work smarter by streamlining and automating our tax processes and systems, and find ways to be both innovative and compliant.

You have strong tax technical skills, good judgment and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This role reports into the Head of Tax, APAC, based in Singapore.

Responsibilities

  • Manage tax audits and controversies in India across different areas of taxation (e.g., income tax, transfer pricing, service tax, excise tax, VAT), and provide proactive tax advice with respect to the group's operations in India, and advising on tax consequences of new products and services launches in India.
  • Assist with tax planning projects in India with respect to Google’s operations and businesses, and partner with India-based and regional business leaders, finance and legal teams in addition to external advisers on various business and tax planning matters.
  • Monitor and analyze proposed and newly enacted Indian tax legislation and assist with defining and implementing appropriate local country tax planning strategies, and develop and cultivate strong relationships with government taxing authorities throughout India.
  • Manage outsourced tax compliance process for India and supporting U.S. international tax compliance for relevant Indian subsidiaries including providing assistance with FIN 48 documentation process.
  • Support the APAC tax team with regional projects or special projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Finance, Accounting or Business. In lieu of degree, 6 years of relevant work experience.
  • 6 years experience in a law firm or big 4 accounting firm, with 5 years of full-time tax planning, advisory, and audit defense experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing tax audits with the local level tax authorities, including attending hearings with Assessing Officers or Commissioners
  • Strong writing, analytical and research skills with an ability to clearly communicate tax technical issues, especially with non-tax professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian tax regulations and case law, Indian treaty interpretations, and OECD and UN guidelines on transfer pricing
  • Knowledge of Indian tax administrative appeals procedures and judicial appeals procedures
  • Ability to manage complex projects and work independently to achieve overall company business objectives.
